Michigan will be sending 3 teams to the Junior Olympics in Virginia from August 1-6, 2010. Compete for a spot on one of three teams! Last year Team Michigan Red won the National Championship. Practices are held every Monday and Wednesday at Chippewa Valley High School from 6:00-8:00 PM. You must be born in years 1991-1997 in order to be eligibile for this event!!

The first annual America's Wrestling Cup was contested over two days in Fullerton, California on Friday, June 4th and Saturday, June 5th at Clovis High School in Clovis, California. Twelve grueling duals over two days left team Central Valley as the last team standing. Last summer MYWA invested in a video platform website that also created a community atmosphere where our family, friends, and competitors can share their videos, photos, or thoughts. Although we have not used this tool to its full effectiveness, we are now going to try and to let the wrestling family in the our great state of Michigan to take advantage of this video based website.

Please visit www.mywaywrestling.net to begin joining the MYWA Network. Sign up for an account and then begin to upload your videos and pictures. If you wrestled in a specific event that is featured then be sure to upload your stuff under that event coverage .

The NUWAY National Championships will be held next weekend at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. Wrestlers from across the country will take to the mats and try to win a National Championship.

 

State Championship results are starting to be posted. A compiled list of results will be posted throughout the week.

2010 State Championship Results

MYWA would like to announce an official date change for the 2010 Team Dual Meet State Championhips. Due to scheduling conflicts MYWA has been forced to move its date to February 28th at Kellogg Arena. This date is the day following the High School Team State Championships that are held at Kellogg Arena.

INDIVIDUAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS scheduled for March 26-28, 2010 will move it's location for the 2010 season to Kellogg Arena as well. It's important to know that MYWA has done everything to keep the state championships in East Lansing, however a conflict with High School State Basketball Championships has for forced MYWA to move to Battle Creek for this season. Complete details on accomodations and hospitality can be found by contacting McCamly Plaza Hotel or Premier Sports Events. McCamly Plaza hotel will be hosting the official weigh-ins for the state championships. More details on the state championships will be released in the coming weeks....

 

The Southwest Region will hold their final combined open & novice event this weekend at Sturgis. The tournament will also be limited to the first 600 entries and there is a split start in effect for Sunday. Session 1 will begin at 10:00 am and Session 2 will begin immediately after the completion of session 1 but not before 1:00 PM. Satellite Weigh-In Sites for Sturgis are: Allegan, Lawton, and Dowagiac. Everyone is encouraged to use the night before weigh-ins!

It's important to note that if MYWA has not received your membership and you would still like to become a member. Membership fee is $20.00 for every membership that was not received as of January 15th. Please refer to the MYWA Rules & Regulations for complete details.

Kearsley tournament on Feb. 6th in the Northeast Region is a Novice & Open event.
Lawton & Schoolcraft tournaments (SW Region) will be limited to the first 550 entries.

 


MYWA has officially set-up a twitter account so that you can sign up to receive updates on a weekly or daily basis as things change within the league. Things that you will receive updates about is events, time changes, weigh-in locations, etc. This service will be beneficial for everyone within the league to stay up to date or know that something has changed without having to view the website. Team MYWA will be taking 3 teams to Ohio for the NUWAY National Elementary Duals on February 6th to held at Olentangy Liberty High School in Powell, Ohio. Also, Team MWYA will compete on Friday, February 5th in St. Johns Arena on the campus of Ohio State University against Team Ohio prior to the University of Michigan vs. Ohio State college wrestling match.

New for the 2010 season MYWA has already announced the changes in age group determination. There has been some other minor changes that all coaches, club administrator's, and wrestlers should be aware of as we head into the New Year. Please visit our RULES & PROCEDURES page for a complete list of updates.

Effective immediately for the 2010 season, the Michigan Youth Wrestling Association will adopt the national federation age group determination. This change was brought about to allow our wrestlers to be in alignment of all state organizations that compete under the National United Wrestling Association for Youth (NUWAY). The new age groups will be determined by the date of December 31, 2009 for the upcoming season. Breakdown of Age Groups & Wt. Classes

 

The Metro-Detoit and East Region have had a slight re-alignment for the upcoming season. This re-alignment will effect a total 9 clubs for the upcoming season.

Clubs affected by the re-alignment:

  • East Region: Allen Park, Downriver, Gross Pointe, Melvindale, Westland Bottle Rockets, and Woodhaven.
